I’m currently writing this while in the passenger seat of Zack’s SUV as he drives our tired asses to rural Pennsylvania for Christmas with his family. Due to The Storm™ that is sweeping the nation, we had to make the decision to leave ahead of schedule, today (on Wednesday) instead of Friday as we had originally anticipated. Of course, Zack and I are extremely privileged to be able to head to PA and still “work from home” tomorrow and Friday. That needs to be acknowledged first and foremost. But secondly, I am fucking TIRED already and the holiday – a holiday with my inlaws no less– hasn’t actually begun yet.
Earlier today I went to therapy (as I do every Wednesday) and my therapist commented on how not anxious I seem. My response was twofold:
I physically don’t have time to be anxious. My to-do list, especially for today, was/is miles long as I prepare to crashland into 2023. If I allowed time to think about the stress, we surely would not have left today (let’s face it, I did most of the things to get us on the road). At this point I’ve been anxious for months, baby, I can (maybe) handle this
We have entered Capricorn season
Welcome to the season of getting shit done. Maybe that’s just the mantra of Earth signs (except Tauruses, sorry friends) because Virgos give similar vibes, just through a nicer presentation. Capricorn is here to laugh at your inefficient ways, fix all of your problems in one sitting, and then wash their hands of you before moving on to tackling the next horrific thing.
GOODS:
hard worker, secure, consistent, self-reliant, diligent, humorous, straightforward, practical, grounded, wise, old soul, prudent, patient, strategic, disciplined, responsible, committed, determined, steady, ambitious, organized, rational
BADS:
rigid, overly skeptical, critical, harsh, remote, controlling, close-minded, unsatisfied, blunt, grumpy, afraid of change, self-denial, self-loathing, resentful, cold, reserved, secretive, materialistic, pessimistic, meloncholic, spiteful, proud
It is not lost on me that both New Year’s and Jesus’ “birthday” fall in Capricorn season. This season really is the time for resolutions, to-do lists, and some slight optimism in your abilities to get there, as well as save humanity. Because Capricorns get shit done. Capricorns want to make things work, as Chani explains. During Cap season, you should be concerned only with the things that will help you summit your mountain and ignore the things that won’t help you get there. Like everything in life, this ambition is a double-edged sword and Capricorn can find themselves going without just to “feel good.” Self-denial is Capricorn’s party trick.
Additionally, Capricorn is acutely aware of the grim realities of life. With resolutions and to-do lists and saving humanity automatically comes the notion of failure, imposter syndrome, and death. As Joanna says, Capricorn doesn’t need reminding or convincing that life is serious business: they’ve known all along. Because of this perception, Capricorns can keep themselves awake at night, anxiously wondering if they’re actually fulfilling the responsibilities they probably put on themselves.
So when you’re inevitably feeling mighty this season, friends, remember the boundaries you’ve set (or get to setting some damn boundaries!!) with those around you, and yourself. During this season, it’s encouraged you to lean into creatively utilizing the tools around you. There is security and safety in checking off completed items, but don’t let the ambition of completing everything drive you over the edge. When you may feel overwhelmed by your might and how to use it this season, or when your worries are strong enough to cause insomnia, remember to let love, pleasure, and kindness in – from others and from yourself. This is especially important when you feel that you’ve failed a task.
AFFIRMATIONS FOR CAPRICORN SEASON
I am committed to being kind to myself by honoring my feelings for solitude and rest when they arise.
I cherish moments of joy and pleasure as much as I cherish my work and productivity in the world.
I recognize the time and labor it will take to master what is most meaningful to me.
As always, I consulted my normal sources—Chani Nicholas’ You Were Born For This, Chani’s Gemini Guide to 2022, Joanna Marine Woolfolk’s The Only Astrology Book You’ll Ever Need, and Alison Davies’ The Mystical Year: Folklore, Magic, and Nature—as research.

Show Your Support: Toys of Hope
Founded in 1994 by Melissa Doktofsky, Toys of Hope, New York's favorite charity, supports over 65,000 needy children, their families, and their pets every year. Toys of Hope operates all year round and does not have any paid employees or professional fundraisers. 100% of all donations goes towards helping families in need. Known for "More Than Toys", the charity has created many programs that provide desperately needed goods and services to assist families in becoming self-sufficient and, in turn, helping to improve their children's lives. An additional charity, American Giving Project was created to communicate this "More Than Toys" message.
All year round (but certainly during the holiday season), Toys of Hope offers an Adopt a Family program, in which you can sponsor a family either by donating from $100-$2500 (depending on family size) OR receive a list of items requested by a family, hand them back to Toys of Hope who will then deliver them to the family. Whichever way you choose to help, you will receive a description of the family and their circumstances. All donations of toys, clothes, hygiene and household items must be BRAND NEW!
